Off West End
Much like fringe theatre, trying to define what Off-WestEnd venue really means is a debate that would take us long into the night. So for our own sanity, we define it as those venues that are slightly bigger than the fringe venues (so roughly 100+ seats), but not the big West End or similar venues that form part of the Society of London Theatre (SOLT). Like fringe venues, Off-WestEnd are eligible for consideration for awards via the Fringe Theatre Awards.

Spank House, Jack Studio Theatre – Review
A triumph! Jake Costello’s performance is incomparable. Arguably one of the best shows in south London!
-
Osric Omand and the Untimely Outbreak, Etcetera Theatre – Review
Hammer Horror meets The Rocky Horror Picture Show meets a student review. Bad, but in a good way. There could be the kernel of a cult following here.

Mojo, White Bear Theatre – Review
A dark and disturbing tour-de-force set in a Soho club in the Rock and Roll 50’s . As comic as it is terrifying.
-
Othello, Drayton Arms – Review
A sexy and inventive retelling of Othello. Well-paced and atmospheric, with some really superb performances.

Anna Weiss, The Space – Review
If you are interested in a psychological study of memory this is an interesting piece, but the trip out to the Isle of Dogs might be prohibitive for some.

Picnic / Eastern Europeans for Dummies, Rosemary Branch Theatre – Review
A nice diversion to break up the working week if you’re in the area, and the second play of the two is definitely worth catching.
-
Breeders, St James Theatre – Review
A missed opportunity that fails to capitalise on a rich subject matter and deep pool of talent.
-
Façade / Eight Songs For A Mad King, Arcola Theatre – Review
An often excellent, sometimes disturbing production of difficult music by an impressive cast of young performers.

Intimacy, Southbank Centre – Review
Helped along with fantastic musical direction, this is an unsentimental exploration of the personal impact of a MS on the life of one woman, and the man closest to her.
