We Predict A Riot, Etcetera Theatre
For Camden Fringe 2025 we are attempting to reach 100 interviews to highlight as many of the shows performing as we possibly can. Every day we will publish new interviews, so do keep coming back to see how close to our target we can get. You can find all our Camden Fringe interviews here.
Stacey Haber‘s We Predict a Riot promises to be a mixture of V For Vendetta, Not the 9 O’Clock News and SNL Weekend Update. Set in the great nation of Vulgaria after the coup that destroyed the Barony, Prime Minister Zadnik and his second in command President Myckyc are making Vulgaria great again in their uniquely Vulgar way.
It does indeed sound like a bit of a riot, so we just had to know more! So ahead of playing at Etcetera Theatre between 4 and 8 August, we caught up with Stacey for a chat.
What can audiences expect from the show?
Humor, shock, incredulity, a smile that last the whole day.
Is Camden Fringe going to be the show’s first time on stage, or have you already performed elsewhere?
This will be our first time.
What was your inspiration behind the show?
I drew my inspiration from The Simpsons, SNL Weekend Update and V For Vendetta. It’s a crazy world right now and I needed to vent and to laugh.
What is it about your character that you most enjoy?
She knows when to shut up.
How challenging has this role been for you?
It scares the living daylights out of me but I think it’s important and I hope that when the dust settles I will feel I didn’t let the world down.
What has been the biggest challenge in realising the writer’s vision for the show?
When my crazy predictions come true and I have to re-write to make it more outlandish.
How important is audience interaction to you?
If they don’t laugh or leave the theatre smiling, they’ve not got value for money. That makes me part of the problem, rather than part of the solution. I know my solution is short term, but a little reprieve from the crazy and depressing is all I’m seeking.
If you had to describe your show as a colour what would it be, and why?
Neon Pink to make everyone take notice but with mirth and curiosity rather than fear.
If you had to describe your show as a meal what would it be, and why?
LSD laced hamburgers the size of your head with hot sauce covered fries and the darkest chocolate milkshake ever seen.
If budget or reality was not an issue, what’s the one piece of scenery/set you’d love to have in your show?
We’d fly to MacDonald Island and film the deportation scenes there.
What words of advice/encouragement would you give anyone thinking about doing Camden Fringe next year?
It’s all about people and relationships. Find your people, create your world and then invite others in to join you. It starts with you and your troupe, then agree to work with the best communicators from the venues list, then invite your audience in to share whatever emotions and notions you’re sharing amongst yourselves.
That does indeed sound like sound advice. Thanks for sharing your insights on the show.
If you’re as intrigued as we are at Everything Theatre then you’ll find We Predict A Riot at the Etcetera Theatre between Monday 4 and Friday 8 August 2025.
