Burlesque On Ice has it’s world premiere in London this week!
Burlesque On Ice is a brand new show and a world premiere, coming to London’s Bush Hall from 4th-8th February 2014. Combining the glitz, glamour and comedy of burlesque with the breathtaking skill of ice skating, this show is innovative theatre at its best.
The show is the creation of burlesque enthusiast and ice skater, Sam Jenkins, who wanted to develop a show full of the glamorous and risqué burlesque for which the UK is famous, but which also had professional skating talent and the entertainment values of Dancing On Ice. As a result, the cast of Burlesque On Ice is a never-before-seen fusion of some of the finest professional skating talent the UK has to offer, including skaters from Disney On Ice and Holiday On Ice, and some of the biggest names in the burlesque world, including burlesque Grand Dame Gwendoline Lamour, and the ethereal Vicky Butterfly.
What should the audience expect from the show?
“A glamorous, risqué spectacle full of humour and ice-skating grace,” says producer Sam. “Burlesque has its roots in satirical comedy and we keep this at the heart of the show, sprinkled liberally with glitter, ice-dance numbers, fans, corsets and feathers! It is a funny, sexy show – definitely for grown-ups only”.
The show follows the principal skater Hollie, as she finds her performing niche and her place in the world, when she discovers burlesque, in this tongue-in-cheek Cinderella-style story.
“I wanted the show to have the wow factor of an ice show but remain true to the larger-than-life bawdy character of burlesque. The burlesque shows of old often poked fun at well known plays and stories, and we were inspired by that format in Burlesque On Ice” says Sam.
Expect glamour, glitter, brilliant ice-skating, laughs and a fabulous night out!
The show runs 4-8th of February at London’s opulent Bush Hall.
