The Saucer, St Paul’s Church Hall
For Camden Fringe 2025 we are attempting to reach 100 interviews to highlight as many of the shows performing as we possibly can. Every day we will publish new interviews, so do keep coming back to see how close to our target we can get. You can find all our Camden Fringe interviews here.
Flying saucers in Berkshire? Apparently so, although it was 1967. Cranbourne AmDram are going to tell us all about this strange yet true story of when a mysterious silver saucer was found in a paddock.
Catch it while you can at St Paul’s Chuch Hall, from 14 to 16 August. Get your tickets here.
What can audiences expect from the show?
Fun and frothy comedy set in the UK in the 1960s. Expect UFO mania and the space age.
Is Camden Fringe going to be the show’s first time on stage, or have you already performed elsewhere?
The galactic premiere was in October in the village of Winkfield where the true events unfolded in 1967
What was your inspiration behind the show?
We were inspired by true events: The Great Saucer Invasion of 1967.
How long have you been working on the play?
Three years.
Is this version how you originally envisioned it or has it changed drastically since you first put pen to paper?
Rewriting four scenes to solve a casting difficulty resulted in a much funnier and more dramatic work. Necessity is the mother of invention!
What was it that drew you to this show and role?
One of the six flying saucers was discovered near the satellite tracking station in my village
What brought you all together?
We’re a local amdram society, excited to take this production to Camden, Infinity and Beyond
Are there any plans for what comes next after the show has finished its run – for you or the show?
We are making this available for other non-commercial groups to adapt and perform under a liberal Creative Commons licence. It would especially suit other locations where the flying saucers were discovered.
If you had to describe your show as a colour what would it be?
Psychedelic – it’s the 1960s!
If your show had a soundtrack what songs would definitely be on it?
My Flying Saucer, by Woodie Guthrie and Billy Bragg – it fits the story line so well!
What is the weirdest or most unconventional prop used in your show?
The Saturn V rocket at the heart of a bawdy song and dance routine
What words of advice/encouragement would you give anyone thinking about doing Camden Fringe next year?
I want to believe!
Is there a question missing that you feel we should be asking you?
We’d love to have been asked what is this show the love child of. And we’d have to say, The X-files, Call The Midwife and Dad’s Army.
Thanks to Warwick Grigg for chatting to us about their out of this world play. Catch it while you can at St Paul’s Chuch Hall, from Thursday 14 to Saturday 16 August.
