Fred Deakin and Sita Pieraccini discuss Club Life ahead of playing at Omninus Theatre
Fred Deakin is best known as one half of Lemon Jelly, a Mercury Award nominated band from the early 2000s. Which for some of us is enough to get us slightly excited. So when we were offered the opportunity to chat with Fred about his show Club Life, how could we say no!
Club Life brings together tales of the club scene of the 80s and 90s as told by Deakin, but rather than just a straight retelling, director Sita Pieraccini has helped turn this into what they believe is a whole new genre of theatre; club theatre! It was a big success in Edinburgh, winning 2023 Edinburgh Fringe-First Award for innovation, and now it’s making its London debut at Omnibus Theatre in Clapham.
We were deligvhted to get time with both Fred and Sita to discuss what to expect from the show, why audience interaction is absolutely encouraged, and what it’s like performing to a very different audience in a fringe theatre compared to some of the clubs he has worked in.
Club Life plays at Omnibus Theatre from 12 – 24 November. Further information and tickets available here.
You can read more about this show in our written interview here.
