What Is WRITE CLUB?

WRITE CLUB is all about showcasing bold new stories with BIG ideas. Whether you’re a writer with a play ready to debut or a theatre maker with a fresh concept, this festival offers a fantastic opportunity to bring your work to life. The festival is open to submissions of pieces ranging from 45 to 60 minutes in length, with no restrictions on cast size. The only requirement? The work must not have been professionally staged for more than two performances.

How to Submit Your Work

The submission process is straightforward. Writers and theatre makers can apply via email by sending their script or an outline treatment for devised or work-in-progress pieces, along with a brief cover letter, to writeclub.hopetheatre@gmail.com. This is your chance to introduce yourself and explain why you’d love to be part of this festival. Be sure to submit your work before the deadline of 3rd November 2024.

Festival Details and Selection Process

Up to 30 shows will be selected by The Hope Theatre’s Literary Team, with each chosen work given a chance to perform two to four times during the festival. Writers will also benefit from the theatre’s support, including invitations to regular social events where they can connect with other theatre makers involved in the festival.

Joint Artistic Directors Laurel Marks and Toby Hampton are leading this exciting initiative. They shared their enthusiasm for the upcoming festival, stating, “We’re both so excited about the launch of this festival. It will bring some light and joy to Upper Street in what is usually a dark and gloomy January! We’re looking for BIG & BOLD theatre making to showcase the brilliant talent that is teeming through the London fringe.”

Why Submit?

Being part of WRITE CLUB offers a unique opportunity to debut your work at one of London’s most respected Off West End venues. With past productions from The Hope Theatre transferring to the West End and winning awards, this is a fantastic springboard for emerging talent. The festival promises to be a space where theatre makers and audiences can explore powerful new narratives and innovative storytelling in an intimate, 50-seat black box theatre setting.
