POLL FUNCTION
Written by Greg Shewring
Directed by Theo St. Claire
Performed by Greg Shewring and Jon Pascoe
Pleasance, London: 23 – 27 February | 7:45pm
28 February | 5:00pm
Jez and Pam. Two west country plonkers returning to rural suburbia to wreak havoc on childhood dreams and a system they believed would bring them future opportunity. Confined within a car for most of the journey, old secrets are aired out and open questions are asked about who they have become since leaving. Speeding through girls, grades and badgers, they fight, spit, cry and kill but still find it hard to accept their feelings are only human.
Shewring’s play comes to London fresh from a sell-out run in Bristol. A sharp exploration of what it means to have a voice in modern Britain, blending unfaltering dialogue and physical expression with an original backseat soundscape, Poll Function is an unreservedly empathic trip through youthful hedonism and social responsibility in 2016.
“Shewring has created a tender portrayal of young male friendship that has the maturity and insight to bother representing those often ignored and making their views valid, their humour funny and their lives matter.” Exeunt Magazine
The Project are a newly formed collective of theatre-makers creating and developing work with a focus on new writing and devising.
“It’s always encouraging when a small startup theatre company in one of our main regional centres, hits the ground performing to the highest standard.” StageTalk Magazine
