A treat for lovers of London, with beautifully observed characters and situations. Although the plot feels sleepy at times, the contemporary relevance makes it compelling.

Pros: A bright script, with some sparkling one liners and an excellent cast, led by the redoubtable Maureen Lipman. Cons: Although it pays tribute to the strength and stoicism of women, the story doesn’t really pick up the equality issues to which it frequently alludes. A fascinating story of a young woman’s meeting with one of the 20th century’s greatest artists.

The second half of the play is by far the better of the two, however the production is worth seeing for the incredible acting by Oliver Cotton and Maureen Lipman.
