In the Bridge Command immersive experience small groups unite to form the crew of the USC Takanami, a compact yet agile fighter ship crafted for space exploration. Each crew member holds a distinct role, ranging from Engineer to Science Officer, all under the command of the Captain. This mission introduces participants to the essentials of operating the ship, managing weapons, and ensuring safety in space. From the very beginning, the storyline is captivating as it unfolds.

The adventure starts with a uniform fitting, followed by transportation to the mess hall. Guests can choose a drink served in a flask from a space-themed bar before heading to the briefing room, where roles and responsibilities are discussed prior to boarding the ship. A variety of themed cocktails is available, however the addition of exciting non-alcoholic options would enhance the experience.

Upon entering the ship, crew members receive a thorough briefing on their duties and controls. The initial inundation of tasks and information is somewhat overwhelming, but this was alleviated by the support of fellow crew members. Once settled, the decision from our captain to charge straight into the battlefield adds excitement, and having choices in battle plans significantly enhances immersion, sparking a desire to return and explore different strategies.

This mission involves retrieving a lost data pad from the enemy ship and the players being grouped with six others created the ideal team size. Although the maximum group number is fourteen, a smaller team fosters a more engaging experience. Although my colleagues started as complete strangers, by the end of the experience we were all laughing about the adventure together and planning our next one! One participant had already been five times and was explaining some of the hilarious outcomes of previous adventures.

Every aspect of the set is meticulously designed with a futuristic theme. The immersive environment truly stands out; as soon as you step inside, the actors remain completely in character, encouraging participation. A particularly impressive element during the communication role is the real-time communication with a live cast member, which elevates the experience beyond typical performances.

The entire adventure lasts around two hours, yet time flies by. Unlike with some other productions, the team has the opportunity to socialise in the mess hall (bar) afterward, prolonging the enjoyment. Additionally, personal details are collected to track progress, allowing participants to return for new missions and the chance to earn promotions, or demotions! The episodic format of the experience allows participants to take centre stage in their own continuous sci-fi series, where past events and choices from earlier missions will be recalled and shape future encounters. Although the ticket price reflects the quality of the experience, it leans toward the higher end of the spectrum, which may limit the willingness to participate multiple times.

The Bridge Command experience offers a unique and immersive journey into space exploration, with well-crafted storytelling, engaging interactions, and an opportunity for repeat adventures. While the cost may be a consideration, the value derived from the experience is undeniable, making it a worthwhile endeavour for those seeking an unforgettable adventure.
