Tristan Jackson-Pate, Cherwell Theatre Company, on new gig theatre show, Song of the Summer
This week’s guest on our Runn Radio show was Tristan Jackson-Pate from Cherwell Theatre Company. Tristan is also the writer of their latest show, Song of the Summer, which will be playing at Northampton’s Picturedrome in August.
Song of the Summer is gig theatre, and Tristan’s love letter to his time in bands back in the 2000s. But it is not a self indulgent wallow of his younger life in bands, rather it is an ode to youth and the pure joy of being in a band and just dreaming that maybe you will be the next big thing. The show features many youngsters from music and theatre backgrounds.
Cherwell Theatre Company are involved in youth projects in the midlands, and so we also discuss the importance of giving teens a chance to experience theatre and get involved in its making. And of course we do discuss some of the music that inspired Tristan when he was in bands.
Song of the Summer plays between 11 and 18 August at Northampton’s Picturedrome. There is also a livestream of the show on 18 August.
The show is made in collaboratoin with Northampton’s Royal and Derngate.
