Interview: Patsy May, Performer Extraordinaire, Phoenix Arts Club
The Blue Babe is back!
Summer is here, the sun is shining – what better way to celebrate than to descend into the depths of the Phoenix Arts Club for a magnificent musical evening with the incredibly talented Patsy May? This cabaret diva rose to public attention as a semi-finalist on Britain’s Got Talent some years ago and since then has kept audiences laughing and loving her exceptional combination of humour and musical magic.
We were delighted to get the chance to chat with Patsy ahead of her unique one-nighter and catch up on what she’s been doing recently. Did I mention she’s blue?
Hi Patsy! Thanks very much for taking the time out of your busy schedule to talk with us today. It’s been a long time since we saw you on stage during the pandemic in your five-star socially-distanced cabaret. What have you been up to recently?
Oh yeahhh. That show was historic, really! A lockdown show. Everyone had masks, hand sanitiser everywhere… but it was OK, though, because the show was before 10pm, which was when Covid hit the streets, so I had a chance to show I had viable skills. What have I been doing? Mostly travelling, stalking – er, I mean hanging out with Coldplay, desperately doing stuff for Instagram, trying to get noticed. Oh, and I have Cameo now, that’s cool. I’m currently debating starting a TikTok, but I’m scared.
I see you’ve had a new ‘do’. Does this herald a professional change in direction, or are you still the same lovable, humble gal you’ve always been?
Hey man, age hits us all in the end, and you gotta do what you gotta do to preserve your looks! I actually had a whole, entire skin and bone replacement as well as the hair. I feel FRESH. I feel NEW. I feel VIBRANT. And I’m serious about getting noticed now. This is it. I’m ready. Gimme a TV travel show. NOW.
Your socially-distanced cabaret was the most fun someone can have in a pandemic, but what can we expect in this year’s production?
This time it’s quite different – I have some fun stuff planned with actor Harry Boyd, and some beautiful music from incredible jazz singer Louise Messenger. I will also be revealing some new, never-heard-before, scandalous stories, along with a couple of show favourite audience participation parts, which are always a hoot!
Are you able to reveal who the guest stars are that will be appearing with you?
Oh! Well, yeah, Harry Boyd and Louise Messenger (below) – BUT there might be one or two cameos towards the end who are gonna blow your mind.

You’re a real girl about town and, as you mention, have recently hung out with celebs such as Coldplay, but you’re now coming back to the Phoenix Arts Club. What is it that makes this venue the right one for you?
OMG, I mean, hanging out in 70,000 capacity stadiums with Coldplay was a pretty big deal, but I looooove the Phoenix! I’ve been coming here for years. It feels like home.
This is a one-off event, but can we expect to see more of you performing – er, ‘live?’ in the future?
Ha! It depends on whether people actually buy tickets to these things! Or if I can get a job on a cruise ship… BUY YOUR TICKETS! SUPPORT THE ARTS! HELP ME PAY MY RENT IN RETURN FOR A FUN TIME (at the theatre, getting cultured).
Thanks very much to Patsy May for giving us the heads up on what promises to be an amazing event. An Evening with Patsy May takes place at Phoenix Arts Club on Friday 8 August at 6.15 pm.
