A romping account of what happens inside the ladies' loos in a club.
The only choice for Megan is to wait inside the cubicle until her friend sorts something out for her and, meanwhile, try to convince Winnie to give her a tampon for free. But Winnie doesn’t give up and explains that this is one of the two jobs she’s got to support her studies in Philosophy and Ethics, hence she really needs that money.
While Megan and Winnie struggle to get along, back on the dancefloor Lydia finds her boyfriend with another girl and returns to the ladies’ toilet completely heart-broken. That’s when this light-hearted comedy finally reveals its higher purpose and the three girls start discussing relationships, motherhood and infidelity. Realising they have much more in common than their background suggested, they agree on a similar set of values and beliefs.
Alternating top rate comedy gags with boisterous choreography, director Evangeline Osbon ensures that the imaginary setting of the club is always alive. These musical breaks are perfect to keep the energy levels high for both performers and spectators.
Whether intentionally or not, actor and playwright Flora London puts particular care into writing her own character, who is the only one never to leave the stage, and also the funniest to watch. That said, both sidekicks are brilliant in delivering a fast-paced comedy whose timing and stage presence require tons of stamina.
The Ladies Loo Chronicles is a commendable achievement for such a young company and anyone who dares to say that girls aren’t funny, clearly hasn’t seen this show. Expect countless references to blood and some seriously icky scenes, which are so horribly bad that they are actually really good!
