Review: 3 Minutes Inside My Brain, Etcetera Theatre

Rating

Unmissable!

Strip, tease, engage and extend your brain capacity for learning and laughter.

Jennifer Jordan shares 3 Minutes Inside My Brain with wit, charm, energy and intelligence. This is an intense 60-minute show where Jordan delivers neuroscience facts, engaging and exercising the brains and bodies of the entire audience.  Jordan is both strong and vulnerable, sharing the workings of her brain in disarming and compelling delivery.

We are presented with our science pens, bingo cards and a zine, and warmly welcomed into Etceteraโ€™s theatre space for a fascinating journey. With a love of neurology and compassion for humanity, Jordan rouses our energy levels and sustains them through this fascinating journey across various zones of our brains.ย  ย

Clearly very well prepared and confident in her delivery, Jordan entices collaboration from all of us, either as individuals or groups and with clear permission to participate or observe without awkwardness or mockery.ย  Her winning personality and delivery elicit warm applause, playfulness and support from all of us.

Our journey includes whistle stop insights into the occipital, temporal, parietal and frontal lobes, touching tenderly on their functionality, features and characteristics. Our visit to the seahorse of the hippocampus is thoughtfully guided, drawing upon memories, sensorial experiences and emotions that fascinate each of us. We have delightful respite from the onslaught of science, through games, laughter and reflection. Introducing us to the Sahara Desert Ant, Jordan shares the antโ€™s navigational capabilities with humour and wonder.

Jordan shares something of the lovable presence of the late Victoria Wood.  Her shining presence, approachable personality, aptitude for delivery with incisive intellect and slapstick humour are a joy to behold.   Her capacity to share knowledge and emotional insight through mime and improvisation provides a nourishing banquet that serves every neurodivergent soul.

This practical and captivating journey is a masterful education in neuroplasticity.  Jordan invites us to engage, learn and evolve through empathic understanding of our brains, emotions and behaviours.  She weaves neurological facts with muppetry and puppetry, drawing playfully from an intriguing ball pit with deft agility.
