Podcast: Mashing It Up With Freddie

Freddie Hayes chats about her show Potatohead

We loved Freddie Hayes’ Potatohead, giving it 4 stars in our review during its Edinburgh run. We’re fairly confident this is the only retelling of Faustus from the viewpoint of a potato. So wher Freddie got in touch to let us know of some new dates, we really wanted to chat and find out a little more.

So, we invited Freddie onto our Runn Radio show to chat about what inspired the show, her love of puppets and whether she has any other vegetable based shows in the pipeline.

You can find out more about Freddie and her work on her website here.

Potatohead

Potato Head is a solo performance about the life of a washed up potato and cabaret star who dreams of fame. But how does a couch potato grow to become a Royal standard spud?

Influenced by elements of Marlowe’s Doctor Faustus, with strong undertones of kitsch cabaret and old school entertainment. Potato Head is an unadulterated celebration of silliness. The 1 hour show explores themes such as self destruction, growth, consumerism, hedonism and identity. Saturated with potato puns from start to finish; expect puppets, clowning, dancing and audience participation throughout.

Potato Head sprouted from an artist collective in London – Word in Transit. A group of artist performed a live art peice influenced by the theme of Toy story on the London underground.

As well as a London date at The Pleasance, the show will be travelling around the UK, with the following dates so far confirmed.

Brighton (Electric Arcade) 7 & 8 October: Tkts here.
Nottingham (Nonsuch Studios) 14 & 15 October: Tkts here.
London (The Pleasance) 26 October: Tkts here.
Newcastle (Alphabetti Theatre) 29 Oct (TBC): Check with venue for confirmation here.
Salford (The Kings Arms) 26 & 27 November: Tkts here.
