Between The Sheets, Underbelly – Review

Pros: Mesmerisingly exciting

Cons: You will be left with the desire to quit your job and join Miss Polly and her crew on their Burlesque journey. (Trust me, even I thought about it)

Unmissable!

An entertaining night that will leave you charged with positivity and feeling sexy.

I consider myself lucky that as a first timer at the Underbelly Festival in South Bank, the show that I got to see was Between the Sheets by Miss Polly Rae, on one of the last beautiful summer evenings of the year.

My interview with Miss Polly Rae was published a few weeks ago and I was eagerly waiting to see if I was going to get to see the performance too. My excitement showed as I rummaged through the crowds, to enter a whimsical performance space, which reminded my friend and me of a circus.

Staged at the Paradiso Stage at the Underbelly, the second the lights turned off and Miss Polly Rae’s sweet voice can be heard, the crowd know that it will be a night to remember.

The show consists of a thrilling late-night cabaret performance with exceptional execution of comedy, contemporary dance, acrobatics and a whole lot of sexy movements. The troupe’s talent is unmissable, led by the breathtaking Miss Polly Rae.

You will gasp, scream, clap and sit on the edge of your seat when you see the numbers that the cast has prepared for you – from an exciting striptease, to a fluorescent paint dance that will gently titillate you, to an acrobatic duo number performed in the air, to the incredible fire dancing by the company’s founding member and ‘international wild child of burlesque’, Kitty Bang Bang.

A personal favourite of mine were the comedy breaks by Lilly Snatchdragon – hysterical, real and absolutely hilarious. The night would not have been the same without you Lilly!

A special mention goes to the incredible ‘Love Dance’ by Tom Cunningham and Callum Macdonald, a pinnacle moment for Miss Polly Rae and for the entire show, too. A moment where between all the sexiness and exciting moments, you are reminded that without love, nothing really matters.

As Miss Polly Rae promised, you will leave this show feeling frisky and with a big smile on your face. Get your tickets as soon as possible and don’t miss this night of pure entertainment!

About Maria Dimova

I believe that theatre will always be my one true love. After having an affair with Architecture and Journalism, I decided to combine my passions and become a Londoner - something I've been dreaming of for a while. Although being in nature is my preferred method of therapy, the feeling after the lights are switched off in an auditorium is more than exhilarating.
