Three shows in our Editor’s Choice this week. These represent some of the best shows our reviewers saw last week, which are still running in the week to come… so you can use this list as a shortcut to plan your week of theatre-going!
1. Opus No 7 at the Barbican – ★★★★. Until 14 June.
As part of the LIFT festival at the Barbican, Opus No 7 is an epic rollercoaster ride through the work of Russian theatre collective Dmitry Krymov Lab. A wondrously inventive and deeply affecting theatrical spectacle, and a privilege to behold. Don’t miss it!
2. Hamlet at Riverside Studios – ★★★★. Until 22 June.
Hamlet transposed into a Liverpudlian prison? That’s exactly what this production does, and it is brutal. This is a brave, violent and unapologetic performance, which breathes new life into the Shakespeare classic.
3. Between Us at the Arcola Theatre – ★★★★. Until 21 June.
Finally, Between Us is a piece focusing on several people who are undergoing counseling. The series of monologues is funny, well-observed and thought-provoking, and will cater to people of all tastes!
