Editor’s Choice: 3-9 February

1. Shiver at the Watford Palace Theatre – ★★★★. Until 22nd Feb.

Our top spot this week is occupied by one of suburban London’s finest theatres. Watford Palace’s production of Shiver is a true masterpiece. Sometimes you can’t beat a really well-crafted and heavyweight play, and this is just that. And to cap it all off there a very few places where you can see such high quality theatre for under £20. Bravo to all involved, and don’t miss it!

2. The Domino Heart at the Finborough Theatre – ★★★★. Until 18th Feb.

The Finbo are in our top 5 for the second week running with their wonderful production of The Domino Heart. Playing in rep with last week’s top pick Carthage, this production is “simple, honest storytelling with intelligence and plenty of (no pun intended) heart” according to our reviewer. I still don’t understand what the pun is (?) but it sounds like a fab production nonetheless!

3. Running on Empty at the Soho Theatre – ★★★. Until 16th Feb.

A powerful and mesmirising dance number in at number three. I’m no slouch on the dance floor myself, but I sense that these performers probably have me beat – this sounds like a wonderful production and my suggestion is that you try and catch it before it ends later this week. If you think you’re not into dance, then why not challenge yourself? You may be surprised….

=4. A Midsummer Night’s Dream: The Dream & The Nightmare at the Brockley Jack Studio Theatre – ★★★★. Sadly finished.

And finally two productions that have sadly now finished at the Brockley Jack, but which deserved honourable mention. Staging any Shakespeare is ambitious, but staging two different versions of the same play in rep is frankly bonkers. So bravo to Immersion Theatre – we reviewed both, and between them they notched up 8 stars out of a possible 10. A group to watch out for methinks.

Everything Theatre
Founded in 2011, Everything Theatre started life as a pokey blog run by two theatre enthusiasts and – thanks to the Entry Pass Scheme for 16-25 year olds – regular National Theatre goers. Today, we are run by part-time volunteers from a wide array of backgrounds. Among our various contributors are people who work in theatre, but also people who work in law, medicine, events, marketing and even psychiatry! We are all united by our love for the London theatre scene.
